Erosions by Ashlyn Forge

Erosions: The Careless tells the story of nineteen year old Galen, a young lord who lives in an underground colony with his estranged mother. Life as a lord is by no means a luxury for Galen however, and as the story unfolds, the reader becomes privy to information that must be concealed from his circle of
friends.

Galen is provided with an opportunity to change his life when he is charged with the care of an elemental (E)  – but Osbourne is damaged, and not the good fortune he first thought. Rather than improve his circumstances, events take a rather nasty turn for the worst…

This is the first book I’ve read by Ashlyn Forge and she has certainly earned my respect as an author to trust. Erosions: The Careless is very much a character driven plot. Everything is revealed through Galen – the world he lives in, the dilemmas he faces, and his hopes and aspirations for the future. I was very quickly acclimatised to the setting, and was sympathising with Galen well before the end of the first chapter. The writing is vibrant, with every word on the page being important to the forward development of the story.
I found this book to be quite a page turner, and I’m looking forward to reading more from this series (as well as investing in some of Forge’s other books).
